4/25/2012 - Announcement of Game Night on Tuesday, May 8th

Subject: MICA sponsored Game Night - Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 - 5:30 PM

People who attended the last Game Night voted to have another one on May 8th. MICA will sponsor it, and Islanders and friends are welcome.

The location depends upon how many people REPLY to me to tell me they will attend: If we have 1 - 12 gamers, we will meet at our home. If more than 12, we will meet at the Nordland Garden Club (NGC).

Leonard Johnson  (mysterybayseafood.com
) will offer us a special treat at either location. "Mystery Bay Seafood Catering will be providing a light seafood appetizer bar consisting of steamed clams, grilled oysters and seafood chowder.  The shellfish for this event will NOT be sourced from Costco or Safeway, but harvested fresh from the shores of Marrowstone Island."

The evening schedule is
  • 5:15 PM - Gamers show up with potluck, games and card tables, if they need them. If we meet at the Nordland Garden Club (NGC), please contribute a suggested donation of $2 (or more) per person (to defray NGC costs) in the Donation Jar.
  • 5:30 PM - Soup, salad, bread, and dessert potluck begins. Bring your own table settings (soup bowls, salad dishes, etc). You may bring your own wine and glasses. Coffee will be served.  After potluck cleanup, the games will begin
  • 7:30 - 8:30 PM - Games end.  Helpers cleanup and (if we are at NGC) store tables and chairs.
If we are at the NGC, I, or a Nordland Garden Club officer will unlock the hall around 4:30 PM and start the heater, if it is cold. Helpers should show up about that time to start the coffee and setup serving tables, playing tables and chairs. I, or the officer will collect the donations and lock the hall around 9 PM.

Please REPLY and edit the following so I know that you will be there and what you will bring. Or you can call me at 385-0105.
  • I will attend and bring a friend or neighbor.
  • I will bring one of these potluck items Soup, salad, bread, or dessert.
  • I will help with setup and cleanup.
  • I will setup/cleanup the coffee.
  • I will bring and/or play a game entitled (type the name here) and need at least "n" more players to join me.

10/1/2011 - Request for level of interest (Post # 5236)

Over the last ten (10) years, based on a search of posts to the Island Net, MICA has sponsored several "Game Nights" at the Nordland Garden Club (NGC) hall.  One Game Night occurred on 2/19/07, another on 2/21/2005 and a third on 10/20/2003, Each started with a soup, salad, bread, and dessert potluck before the games began. Usually the potluck started at 6 PM and the games started at 7 PM, ending around 9 PM.

MICA meets on the 3rd Monday of the odd-number months - September, November, January, March and May. As you can see above, the three (3) Game Nights were held on the 3rd Monday of the even-numbered months of October and February.

I made a proposal to the MICA Board asking them to sponsor regularly scheduled Game Nights on the three (3) even-numbered months of October, February and April of each year. They agreed.

The NGC hall is currently available on 10/17/2011, 2/20/2012 and 4/16/2012.

What do you think of this idea? Please REPLY or REPLY ALL with your comments and/or responses to the following seven (7) questions.
  1. Do you like the above schedule? If not, what would you prefer?
  2. Do you like the idea of a potluck before the games begin?
    1. If yes, do you want it to be a soup, salad, bread, and dessert potluck or a regular potluck?
    2. Is the start time of 6 PM OK? If not, what would you prefer?
  3. Is the start time for games of 7 PM OK? If not, what would you prefer?
  4. Would you be willing to help setup before 5 PM and cleanup after the games are over (approximately 9 PM)?
  5. Would you be willing to bring a card table if one is needed for playing cards?
  6. Normally, NGC charges for the use of their hall. Since it is a MICA sponsored event, there is no charge. However, we will be using their facilities. Would you be willing to drop a few dollars in a "hat" to be given to the NGC to defray their costs?
  7. I did not include December because of the holiday activities. Would you attend a Game Night on the 3rd Monday in December? The NGC hall is available on 12/19/2011.

Responses

    1. 10/1/11 - 1. I like February and April; but am just too busy now for October, besides there's Monday night football.
      2. Potluck yes, doesn't matter what kind. 6:00 is good.
      3.Games at 7:00 OK
      4. Too busy to help with this
      5. Yes can bring up to 3 card tables
      6. Willing to help out NGC with a donation
      7. NOOOOOOO on December
    2. I like the regularly scheduled Mon. night, but I would prefer dinner at 5:30, games to start at 6:30 to 8:30, then clean up time and home by 9.  Yes, I would be willing to help set up and/or clean up.  And a potluck of soup, salad, bread and dessert sounds just right.  I'm assuming coffee (decaf) will be available? Do we furnish our own table ware, wine... ? Most older people like an earlier dinner and home by 9, (so the statics say) and I'm assuming it'll be mostly the older (retired) people who would be interested in this. Let's go for it: great idea and thanks for pursuing it with MICA.
    3. How about a bingo night?
    4. We probably won't go to any of the game nights.  They are just not our thing.
    5. 10/2/11 - Schedule & time good.  If there was a potluck I could come early to help. I would love to see Game nights. Good idea.  1.  Like schedule.  2.either one  3.Yes  4.yes,either one  5.Don't have one  6.  Yes   7.Probably
    6. 1/3/11 - 3rd Mon good;  any kind of food; 6:00 potluck; 7:00-9:00 games; "hat" collection good; I cannot do Dec
